HCSD Preschool
Learning Goal #1I will spend a day with the occupational therapist and learn what a typical day looks like for them in order to better understand how they have an impact on a child’s learning and development.
|
Occupational therapists work with students one-on-one to help them meet their individual goals regarding fine motor skills.

Speech therapists work with students one-on-one to help them meet their individual goals regarding their speech and use of language.

Learning Goal #3
I will learn different ways to take care of a student that is not behaving well or that doesn’t want to participate in classroom activities so that I will be able to handle a situation like this if it were to occur in my career in the future.

Learning Goal #4
I will learn how teachers plan lessons and how they can adapt them for different levels of students so that I can have a better understanding of what type of planning in advance is required outside of the classroom for this career.

Learning Goal #5
I will learn what kind of criteria students are evaluated on so that I can have a better understanding of how preschool teachers determine whether or not a child is ready for kindergarten.
- Students who are incoming to the preschool and have a recognized disability have multiple assessments done before they attend class
- Multi-Factored Evaluation (MFE) is like a test run for how the student would handle being in a class with other students and evaluates what skills they have and what skills they are developing
- Information from the MFE is compiled into an Evaluation Team Report (ETR), and is reviewed first with therapists and parents, and then a teacher will join to draft an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
- The Early Learning Assessment (ELA) is done for students with IEPs twice each year: once in the spring and again in the fall
- Progress on IEP goals/objectives is reported to parents every grading period (12 weeks)
- Student Report is created by a teacher and contains progress on general curriculum, also must be completed every grading period
- IEPs must be renewed every year
- Peers are also evaluated on the general curriculum found on the Student Report
