Mrs. Andrea FogtMrs. Andrea Fogt became an early intervention specialist because she loves making a difference and working with young children to help them succeed in everything. Her role models include her mom and dad, whose patience, kindness, and giving to others were ingrained from a young age, as well as the amazing people she works with, and she looks up to them.

Some of her main responsibilities include IEP writing, data collection, and making sure that children are progressing through their goals and objectives. In addition, she makes sure that every kid is learning what they need to be learning to be functional and independent children leading into adulthood.
Outside of her work at the Hilliard Preschool, she is the local coordinator for the Special Olympics group based out of Hilliard. It is a year round program, and has approximately 150 athletes, ranging from 8 to 52 years old. She has been in the program for 24 years, and for the past 16 years has been coordinating practice schedules, facilities, equipment, coaches, referees, and volunteers.
Her advice to young professionals pursuing this type of work is to never be afraid to ask questions.

Mrs. Carrie RaczWhile she originally had plans to be an oceanographer, she decided to go into education because she didn’t want her career to determine where she lived, and since her dad was a teacher she knew the field through him. Her role models include her mom and some of her coworkers who are a little bit older than her, as even though some assistants are not necessarily licensed teachers, she learned a lot from them about how to interact with the kids.

Her main responsibility as a teacher at the preschool level is to build a foundation of a love of learning, so that when they leave they want to come back and are excited about school. Although there are advantages to her job, like spending the summers with her own kids, there is also a lot of time devoted to work at home during the school year.
Her advice to young professionals pursuing this type of work is that you can’t be in it for the money, because as most people know, teachers don’t get paid much, so you really need to have a love for what you are doing.
