MCGC Laboratory
Melissa Rumohr
An alumna of the University of Cincinnati, Melissa Rumohr is the Director of Laboratory Operations at Mount Carmel’s Grove City location. Her main responsibilities include the direct operations of everything that takes place in the lab, setting the budget for each fiscal year, and the hiring and firing of all lab employees. Though it isn’t in her job description, she sometimes aids in the training of new techs and troubleshooting of lab equipment.
She says that someone in her job needs strong multitasking and organizational skills, as well as the ability to handle stress without losing their head. She also says that an upside of her career is the ability to accurately recognize symptoms and identify potential diseases in a patient before an official diagnosis from a doctor. Her role models include her parents, who were hard workers and taught her how to give one hundred percent. Additionally, other leaders at Mount Carmel, as they are selfless, they care about the patients, and they taught her servant leadership. Her advice to young professionals pursuing this type of work is to make sure you love what you’re doing, and if you don’t then you should do more searching. She says to never give up on your dreams, never give up on the things that made you love what you do, and to remember that you are never too old to learn. |
